“It’s been a year since I got married. For now, I had no amazing wedding, proposal ring, or any celebration, just a simple and official registration. My husband and I only spent few hours changing our marital status. We received our first gift soon after marriage – our little Rocky. And, my story has started.
It happened quickly; we suddenly jumped to other steps in our life. I didn’t feel anything change until Rocky was born. As a bachelorette, I never thought that being a mom is such a wonderful thing. Of course, you get more duty and face more challenges in your life after you have a baby. However, it is the way you empower yourself and improve your life. You only know a part of yourself which you don’t know on your own and whether you have a good partner when things happen. A great couple would like to collaborate to solve the problem and face the challenge together. As a Chinese saying goes, “In heaven with a good partner, down to hell with a bad mate.” I felt the same way strongly after I married, and have seen so many of my married friends, especially in the case of some conservative families. Some of my friends have generations conflict after they get married due to conservative parents-in-law.
Fortunately, My husband has a good family that is open-minded and respects us very much for what we do. You will feel comfortable and safe when you meet the right mate. You will not worry about ego-esteem, prestige, or life things. In the beginning, when we were together, I was kind of disappointed about fewer promises from My husband. As time goes on, I found My husband does and listens more than I thought. He was doing for me more than speaking to me, which fulfills me and shows me he is the right one. With the right one, you feel got back up and having life goal which make you enjoy the life more, and worry less. It seems everything would be better if you believe to.
Eventually, we got married. He gave me a proposal that only belongs to us, which I expected, even with a funny golden ring from Costco. Most importantly, he always remembers every little thing I care about, even if only mentioned once. At that moment, I don’t care about celebration, reputation, weddings, or other people’s expectations. This is our marriage; the rest of life is something we both need to go through together.
Afterward, we did our best to persuade our parents to get married in our way and meet their basic expectations. Fortunately, it is still the Covid year, which is a good reason to prevent big events, and our parents accepted our way in the end.
In 2022, we were married at a registry without a wedding. We took photos and sent it to our relatives and friends, announcing our news. We went to a restaurant to celebrate our new marital status. Of course, we also sent a wedding cake to people sharing our happiness. We received our first gift soon after and started to change our living and life in a short time.”
